India’s dark sky reserves at Hanle and Pench are working. The science is intact, the wildlife is recovering, and the Milky Way is still visible. But with no national policy on light pollution, everything beyond the reserve boundary is slowly disappearing into the glow. Growing up in Calcutta, I knew the stars only when the power went out.
