UPDATE: Woman stable after suspect chased, killed by KCSO deputies in I-79 shootout

A suspect is dead following a police chase and shooting that ended on Interstate 79 North of the Mink Shoals exit in Charleston, West Virginia on April 16, 2026. The shooting of the man occurred following a crash initiated by Kanawha County Sheriff's Office deputies. The incident began around 6:30 p.m. when deputies responded to a domestic call in Chesapeake, West Virginia. A man at a residence there shot a woman in the back and fled. The chase took deputies through Kanawha City and onto Interstate 79, where they used a PIT maneuver to stop the suspect. A shootout occurred and the man was fatally shot.
