New digital archive highlights work of Italian artist Augusto Salvatore Oppo

A new open digital archive is bringing renewed attention to Augusto Salvatore Oppo (Sassari, 1939–2015), an Italian painter, designer and educator whose work developed over more than five decades but remained largely outside the national art-historical narrative. Created by the artist's sons, Paolo and Carlo Oppo, the Augusto Oppo Archive has already documented more than 500 works and continues to expand as paintings, documents, photographs and testimonies emerge from private collections, homes and archives. The project is not conceived as a closed retrospective catalogue. Its public and participatory structure is central to the research: collectors and private owners are invited to submit information and photographs of works that have not yet been documented.
